About the Tree

Introduced 1831 to 1833.

Fir is derived from the Old English furh or fyrh or the Danish fyrr, meaning “fire”, as it was used as
firewood.

The leaves are needle-like, flattened.

The foliage has an attractive scent, and is sometimes used for Christmas decoration, including
Christmas trees. It is also planted as an ornamental tree in large parks.
